Netanyahu Rejects Trump’s Claim of Influence Over Israel, Says Both Nations Act Independently

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected Donald Trump's claim of influence over Israel, saying both nations act independently and respect each other's sovereignty and leadership.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has responded to recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, rejecting the suggestion that Israel follows instructions from the United States in West Asian affairs. Speaking at the Jerusalem News Syndicate International Policy Conference 2026, Netanyahu said that neither leader follows the other’s orders and stressed that both countries are independent and sovereign nations. The remarks came after Trump claimed in an interview that Israel would listen to what he says regarding military actions in the region.

Netanyahu Says Israel and US Are Independent Nations

Addressing the conference, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel makes its own decisions based on national interests and security considerations.

He stated:

“President Donald Trump won’t do what I say, and I won’t do everything he says. We are leaders of independent and proud nations. We may not have the same views on some issues. I will stand up for Israel’s interests and security. Sometimes we don’t agree, but we respect each other’s sovereignty and leadership.”

Netanyahu’s comments were made during the Jerusalem News Syndicate International Policy Conference 2026.

Trump’s Remarks Sparked Discussion

The response follows comments made by US President Donald Trump during an interview with Axios last Friday.

During the interview, Trump was asked whether he could influence Israeli military actions to stop attacks on Lebanon.

Responding to the question, Trump said:

“Yes, I can. They have a lot of respect for me. They will listen to what I say.”

Trump also stated that he shared a good relationship with Netanyahu.

According to the interview, Trump said that at times he had to keep Israel “restrained” and further remarked that Israel would not exist without the support of the United States.

Netanyahu Responds to Trump’s Statements

Netanyahu’s latest remarks are being viewed as a direct response to Trump’s comments regarding his influence over Israeli decisions.

The Israeli Prime Minister reiterated that while Israel and the United States maintain close relations, there can be differences of opinion on certain issues.

However, he emphasized mutual respect for each country’s sovereignty and leadership.

Israel-US Relations Remain Important

Despite acknowledging occasional disagreements, Netanyahu indicated that both countries continue to maintain a relationship based on mutual respect.

His comments highlighted Israel’s position that national security decisions are taken independently while maintaining cooperation with allies.
