CM Revanth Reddy Slams Centre Over Crop Procurement, Urges CPM to Join Fight for Farmers

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy criticised the Centre over crop procurement and urged CPM leaders to join the fight for farmers during a meeting in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy criticised the Union government over crop procurement and alleged that the Centre was not purchasing harvested crops from farmers despite announcing Minimum Support Price (MSP). During a meeting with a Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) delegation at the Secretariat in Hyderabad on Monday, the Chief Minister urged Left parties to join the fight against the Centre on procurement issues while also discussing the Musi Rejuvenation project and education reforms.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Accuses Centre of Failing to Procure Crops

Addressing the CPM delegation, CM Revanth Reddy alleged that the Union government was not procuring even 30 percent of harvested crops including paddy and maize.

The Chief Minister said:

“Except announcing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to the crops, the Centre is doing nothing in the procurement of paddy, maize and other crops.”

He further stated that the Telangana government was purchasing every grain cultivated by farmers in the state.

Telangana Facing Hamali Shortage During Procurement

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy informed the CPM leaders about the shortage of Hamalis (loaders) during the procurement season due to elections in West Bengal.

He said prevailing heat wave conditions were also affecting procurement operations during afternoon hours at procurement centres.

The Chief Minister stated that he was continuously reviewing procurement operations across the state.

He also highlighted that the Telangana government was providing:

  • Rs 500 bonus per quintal for fine variety paddy
  • MSP for maize crops

to provide relief to farmers.

Musi Rejuvenation Project Discussed With CPM Delegation

The meeting also focused on the progress of the Musi Rejuvenation Project.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy informed the CPM delegation that the government was sanctioning houses for people displaced alongside the Musi River under the Musi Rejuvenation project.

The Chief Minister said the project would transform the Musi riverfront into a world-class tourist destination and create large-scale employment opportunities for local youth.

He criticised the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi and Bharatiya Janata Party for politicising the Musi project.

The CPM delegation was also informed about increasing pollution in the Musi river and its impact on people in Nalgonda district.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said:

“My objective is to provide a quality life to the citizens of the city.”

Telangana Education Reforms and Public Schools Reviewed

The Telangana Chief Minister also discussed reforms being introduced in the education sector.

He said the state government is overhauling the education system to ensure quality education for poor students.

The reforms include:

  • Nutritious breakfast and mid-day meals
  • Establishment of Telangana public schools

Revanth Reddy also suggested CPM leaders visit the Arutla Public School.

CPM Delegation Thanks Telangana Government

The CPM delegation was led by State Secretary John Wesley.

The delegation expressed gratitude to the Telangana government for introducing the Minimum Wages Amendment Act.
