Road Safety Month Observed on Hyderabad’s Nehru Outer Ring Road; Authorities Urge Vigilance

Hyderabad: Stressing that road safety must remain a top priority, officials and experts on Saturday urged motorists to remain constantly vigilant while using the Nehru Outer Ring Road (NORR). The appeal was made during the Road Safety Month programme organised by IRB Golconda Expressway Private Ltd., the agency responsible for the maintenance of the NORR. January is being observed nationwide as Road Safety Month.

As part of the programme, participants took a road safety pledge, committing themselves to follow traffic rules, prioritise the safety of all road users, promote awareness, assist accident victims, and uphold a clean, healthy, and safe road culture.

Addressing the gathering, Paramjyothi, Chief General Manager of Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), said the NORR has emerged as a benchmark for national highways and expressways across the country. He announced that multi-dimensional AI cameras are being installed along the 90-kilometre stretch of the NORR in the Cyberabad region.

“These AI-enabled cameras will help monitor traffic discipline, detect violations, prevent accidents, and address issues such as illegal parking in real time. Immediate action can be taken wherever required. Over the past two years, our Road Safety Month initiatives have helped significantly reduce accidents on the NORR,” he said, adding that the efforts had even drawn appreciation from a Supreme Court judge during a visit last year.

IRB Project Head Col. Girishwar highlighted that road safety awareness should extend beyond expressways. “An accident results in loss for everyone. Taking a pledge alone is not enough—we must practice it daily. Along with safeguarding ourselves, we should encourage others, including two-wheeler and three-wheeler riders near toll plazas, to follow rules and drive responsibly,” he said.

The event was attended by Rizwan, Superintending Engineer, HGCL; Ramkumar, NORR Team Leader; and senior officials and staff of IRB Golconda Expressway Private Ltd., who reiterated their commitment to making the NORR safer for all road users.
