Hyderabad: A security alert has been sounded in and around Bollaram in Secunderabad after Army officials reportedly detected that several weapons, including four AK-47 rifles, were missing from an arms unit associated with the Madras Regiment.

According to preliminary information, a military Brigadier informed Bollaram police about the missing weapons. Army authorities have reportedly launched an internal inquiry to determine how the weapons went missing.

One possible angle being examined is whether the weapons were taken following a dispute involving leave granted to a fellow officer. However, this aspect has not yet been officially confirmed.

Following the incident, security has reportedly been tightened across Bollaram and the Secunderabad Cantonment area. Army personnel and police are conducting vehicle checks on military and civilian roads, while some roads in parts of Bollaram have reportedly been closed as a precautionary measure.

Army officials and police have launched a search operation to trace the missing weapons. Investigators are also examining the details of personnel who were posted in the arms section, CCTV footage and movement records to establish how the weapons disappeared.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, and further details are awaited.
