The proposed project, estimated to cost ₹7,360 crore, involves transporting water through two major pipelines. According to the plans, each pipeline will have the capacity to carry around 10 TMC of water.
The project has also triggered political reactions, with the opposition highlighting Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s earlier criticism of the Kaleshwaram project. Revanth Reddy had previously referred to the project and its implementation in strongly critical terms, including comparing the project’s executing agency to the “East India Company.”
The opposition has now questioned the government’s decision to award the tender for the proposed pipeline project to Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL), despite its earlier criticism of the Kaleshwaram project.
As part of the proposed plan, the Congress government is reportedly considering the creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to implement the project. The SPV is expected to raise loans to finance the ₹7,360-crore infrastructure works.
