Telangana Sanctions ₹11.86 Crore for Restoration of 8 Historic Hyderabad Arches

The Telangana Government has approved ₹11.86 crore for the restoration of eight historic Hyderabad arches. The heritage conservation project aims to preserve centuries-old monuments and improve public safety.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Government has sanctioned ₹11.86 crore for the complete restoration and conservation of eight historic arches in Hyderabad as part of a major heritage preservation initiative. The centuries-old monuments, which have deteriorated due to age, weather conditions, and inadequate maintenance, will be restored under the supervision of the Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority, while funding will be provided by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority. The restoration project aims to preserve Hyderabad’s heritage and improve public safety.

Telangana Approves ₹11.86 Crore for Hyderabad Heritage Restoration

The Telangana Government has issued administrative approval for the project and also permitted the appointment of expert consultants.

The consultants will prepare:

  • A detailed restoration plan for each historic arch.
  • Cost estimates.
  • Technical reports.

After the reports are completed, separate tenders will be invited for the restoration of each monument to ensure transparency and high-quality execution.

Eight Historic Hyderabad Arches to Be Restored

The restoration project covers the following eight historic arches:

  • Hasmath Ganj Arch
  • Diwan Devdi Arch No. 1
  • Diwan Devdi Arch No. 2
  • Chatta Bazaar Arch
  • Dabirpura Arch
  • Shaikh Faiz Arch
  • Raniganj Arch
  • Hussaini Alam Arch

These historic gateways belong to the Qutb Shahi and Asaf Jahi periods. They once served as important entrances to palaces, residential areas, and the Old City, and continue to be an important part of Hyderabad’s cultural and historical identity.

Restoration Aims to Preserve Heritage and Improve Public Safety

Officials said the historic arches have become weak due to the passage of time, weather conditions, and lack of proper maintenance.

In several places, incidents of falling plaster and stones have been reported, raising concerns about the safety of pedestrians and local residents, especially during the monsoon season.

According to officials, the objective of the project is not only to preserve Hyderabad’s historical heritage but also to strengthen these ancient structures to ensure the safety of people and protect the city’s priceless legacy for future generations.
