Where Will Musi Cleaning Begin and End? Owaisi Asks
Raising key questions in the Assembly, Akbaruddin Owaisi asked the government to clearly explain from where to where the Musi River will be cleaned.
He questioned whether:
- The cleaning would begin from Vikarabad
- Or if the project would start midway
- What exact plans exist from Vikarabad to Gandipet
He said the government must clearly define the project boundaries to avoid confusion and injustice.
Concerns Over Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar Catchment Areas
Owaisi also sought detailed information on the catchment areas of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar, stressing their importance for Hyderabad’s water security.
He demanded:
- Protection of catchment zones
- Removal of decades-old vegetation and silt
- Measures to increase water storage capacity
According to him, improving storage capacity could even help in transferring Godavari water to these reservoirs.
‘Musi and Esa Are No Longer Rivers’
Criticising the current state of the river, Owaisi said that Musi River and Esa streams have effectively turned into sewage carriers.
Key points highlighted:
- Musi River ranks 8th globally in pollution levels
- Entire city sewage flows into Musi
- Polluted water is entering Gandipet lake, raising serious concerns
He warned that unless sewage management is addressed, river cleaning alone will not solve the problem.
Questions on Charminar Pedestrian Project
The MLA also raised concerns over the pedestrian project near Charminar, which was launched nearly three years ago.
He questioned:
- Why the project is still incomplete
- What progress has been made so far
- When it will be opened for the public
He urged the government to provide clear answers on pending urban development projects.
Call for Transparent and People-Centric Development
Akbaruddin Owaisi concluded by urging the government to ensure that urban development, river cleaning, and beautification projects do not displace or harm poor families. He called for a balanced approach that protects both the environment and people’s livelihoods.
