Telangana Govt Speeds Up Paddy Procurement Process, Rs 8,749 Crore MSP Released to Farmers: Uttam Kumar Reddy

Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy reviewed the paddy procurement process and said 51 lakh metric tonnes of paddy were procured while Rs 8,749 crore MSP was released to farmers.

Hyderabad: Telangana Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday directed officials to further speed up the paddy procurement process across the state as part of farmer welfare measures. Reviewing the procurement process through a video conference, the minister said the government has so far procured 51 lakh metric tonnes of paddy and released Rs 8,749 crore as Minimum Support Price (MSP) payments to farmers.

Uttam Kumar Reddy Reviews Paddy Procurement Process

The review meeting was conducted through video conference from Hyderabad.

Other ministers, district collectors, officials, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Council, and MLAs from different districts also participated in the meeting.

Telangana Targets Procurement of 75 Lakh Metric Tonnes Paddy

Speaking during the review, N Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that paddy cultivation was carried out across 141 lakh metric tonnes statewide.

Out of this, the government has set a target of procuring 75 lakh metric tonnes of paddy by paying Minimum Support Price to farmers.

The minister said the state government established 8,575 paddy procurement centres across Telangana.

He stated that 51 lakh metric tonnes of paddy have already been procured so far.

According to the minister, the government has released Rs 8,749 crore towards MSP payments.

21 Crore Gunny Bags Arranged Across Telangana

The minister said 21 crore gunny bags have been made available at the field level across the state.

He directed officials to procure the pending 8 lakh 50 thousand metric tonnes of paddy lying at procurement centres on a war footing.

Telangana Govt Directs Completion of Procurement by Month-End

N Uttam Kumar Reddy instructed officials to complete the procurement process by the end of this month.

He also ordered the establishment of check-posts in border districts to prevent paddy, jowar, and maize from entering Telangana from neighbouring states.

Warning Against Rice Millers and Middlemen

The minister warned that strict action would be taken against rice millers and middlemen if they cheat farmers regarding moisture content and deductions.

He directed officials to quickly upload procurement details in tabs so that payments to farmers can be completed without delay.

The minister stated that farmer welfare is the government’s primary objective and assured that measures are being taken to prevent losses to farmers.

He also directed officials to counter false reports related to paddy procurement and respond immediately to negative news.

Officials were instructed to publicise the record-level procurement achieved by the government.

Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka on Farmer Payments and Pollution

Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka directed officials to complete the procurement process quickly and increase the number of hamalis where necessary.

He stated that in the past, farmers had to wait for months for procurement payments, but now payments are being made immediately.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said the government is taking measures to prevent air pollution as part of urban development.

He instructed officials to create awareness among farmers against burning agricultural waste.

Review Meeting on Women Welfare Week Held

Later, Telangana Women and Child Welfare Minister Dhanasari Anasuya, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Women and Child Welfare Department Secretary Anita Ramachandran, and Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Principal Secretary Dana Kishore held another review meeting regarding the 99-day Praja Palana Progress Plan.

The meeting reviewed preparations for Women Welfare Week scheduled from May 25 to May 30.

Programmes Planned Under Women Welfare Week

Officials stated that several programmes would be organised at village and mandal levels, including:

  • Foundation stone laying for Indira Mahila Shakti Bhavans
  • Foundation stone laying for Anganwadi centres
  • Awareness programmes on women’s safety
  • Awareness programmes on the POSH Act
  • Establishment of solar power plants
  • Meetings of women mandal federation executive committees
  • Ullas programme
  • Amma Mata – Anganwadi Bata programme

Telangana Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to accelerate paddy procurement across the state and complete the process by month-end. The government has so far procured 51 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, released Rs 8,749 crore as MSP payments, and established 8,575 procurement centres. The minister also warned of strict action against rice millers and middlemen cheating farmers, while additional review meetings were held regarding Women Welfare Week programmes under the Praja Palana initiative.
