Telangana Tourism Roadmap: Jupally Krishna Rao Pushes Grand Tourism Carnival, Eco-Tourism and 1,600-Acre Somashila Development

Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive Telangana tourism roadmap featuring a Grand Tourism Carnival, eco-tourism in Amrabad and Kawal Tiger Reserves, and development of 1,600 acres at Somashila.

Hyderabad: Telangana Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive and implementable roadmap to unlock Telangana’s tourism potential. During a detailed review meeting, the Minister called for destination development, stronger tourism infrastructure, investment promotion, effective marketing, a Grand Tourism Carnival, eco-tourism projects in Amrabad and Kawal Tiger Reserves, and a comprehensive plan to utilise nearly 1,600 acres at Somashila.

Telangana Tourism Roadmap Focuses on Infrastructure and Visitor Experience

Chairing an extensive review meeting on tourism development and promotion, Jupally Krishna Rao said Telangana’s rich heritage, culture, forests, wildlife, rivers, reservoirs and diverse landscapes should be transformed into attractive tourism products and memorable visitor experiences.

He said this should be achieved through:

  • Systematic planning
  • Quality infrastructure
  • Professional destination management

The Minister directed officials to identify gaps in:

  • Connectivity
  • Accommodation
  • Hygiene
  • Sanitation
  • Tourist amenities
  • Recreational facilities

He instructed them to prepare destination-specific action plans.

Grand Tourism Carnival Proposed

The Minister reviewed a proposal to organise a Grand Tourism Carnival showcasing Telangana’s:

  • Tourist destinations
  • Culture
  • Cuisine
  • Heritage
  • Arts
  • Entertainment

He called for:

  • Large-scale planning
  • Innovative concepts
  • Extensive promotion

The objective is to develop the carnival into a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists.

Officials were also directed to study successful international tourism models such as the Global Village Dubai and explore suitable concepts for Telangana.

New Tourism Experiences Planned for Hyderabad

Several proposals aimed at enhancing tourism in Hyderabad were discussed, including:

  • City tour buses
  • Baoli Festival
  • Heritage walks
  • Night bazaars
  • Sound and light shows
  • Vintage Cars Museum

The proposed heritage walks will cover:

  • Putlibowli
  • Koti
  • Charminar
  • Laad Bazaar

These initiatives are intended to showcase Hyderabad’s history, architecture, cuisine and culture while strengthening evening and night-time tourism.

Eco-Tourism Development for Amrabad and Kawal Tiger Reserves

The Minister directed officials to develop the Amrabad Tiger Reserve and Kawal Tiger Reserve by studying successful wildlife and eco-tourism models such as Bandipur National Park.

He instructed officials to prepare sustainable development plans integrating:

  • Wildlife
  • Natural landscapes
  • Local communities
  • Culture

while ensuring ecological conservation.

The tourism potential of Amrabad, including:

  • Chenchu culture
  • Kakatiya-era temples
  • Local festivals
  • Nature-based experiences

should be developed as part of a distinctive eco-tourism circuit.

1,600 Acres at Somashila to Be Developed

Jupally Krishna Rao sought a comprehensive development plan for the optimal utilisation of nearly 1,600 acres at Somashila.

The proposed plan should include:

  • Tourism infrastructure
  • Accommodation
  • Waterfront experiences
  • Wedding Destinations
  • Recreational activities
  • Suitable investment opportunities

He stressed that development should remain sustainable while safeguarding government interests.

Investment Promotion and Tourism Administration

To accelerate tourism investment, the Minister proposed:

  • Organising an Investors’ Meeting in Hyderabad.
  • Constituting a three-member committee to identify tourism properties and destinations for development through appropriate investment models.

He stressed the need to attract private investment while expanding public investment beyond Hyderabad for balanced tourism growth across Telangana.

Officials were directed to prepare, within two to three days, a concrete proposal for an effective mechanism to protect, operate and maintain tourism properties and infrastructure.

Hygiene, Ramappa Cafeteria and Sanjeevaiah Park

The Minister instructed officials to give the highest priority to:

  • Hygiene
  • Sanitation
  • Maintenance

He directed officials to make the Ramappa cafeteria operational at the earliest.

He also reviewed the proposal to commence tourism activities at Sanjeevaiah Park.

Stronger Tourism Administration and Professional Tourist Guides

Jupally Krishna Rao directed District Tourism Officers (DTOs) and Assistant Managers to regularly inspect tourist destinations and provide feedback on infrastructure, maintenance and visitor facilities.

Officials were also asked to examine a stronger administrative mechanism on the lines of the earlier Divisional Manager (DVM) system with adequate delegation of responsibilities and powers.

The Minister further directed the department to develop a mechanism for the selection and professional training of tourist guides to improve visitor experiences.

He said the government’s objective is to:

  • Develop new destinations
  • Strengthen existing attractions
  • Create distinctive tourism experiences
  • Attract investment
  • Generate employment
  • Position Telangana as a leading tourism destination
