Hyderabad: Telangana has taken a significant step toward shaping the future of sustainable artificial intelligence by hosting a high-level global summit that brought together international policymakers, investors, AI innovators and development leaders to unveil a first-of-its-kind Sustainable AI Framework for the Global South.
The initiative, developed in partnership between the Government of Telangana and the Meridian Collective, aims to create a balanced ecosystem that promotes AI-driven economic growth while ensuring environmental sustainability, workforce readiness and inclusive development.
The framework is built on two key pillars:
- Global AI Grid Alliance (GAIA): A collaborative platform bringing together governments, private sector organisations and global stakeholders to develop sustainable AI infrastructure, address rising energy and water demands, and promote green technology solutions.
- Agentics AI Sandbox Programme: A dedicated initiative to equip young people with next-generation AI and agentic technology skills while supporting innovation through training, mentorship and seed funding for AI-based product development.
The summit witnessed participation from an international delegation representing the United States, Norway, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Africa, Nepal and Sri Lanka, along with global asset managers, parliamentarians, artificial intelligence experts and philanthropic organisations.
Discussions focused on building sustainable AI infrastructure, ensuring responsible deployment of emerging technologies, creating employment opportunities through AI, and strengthening public-private collaboration to support long-term economic growth.
Participants also deliberated on key policy questions surrounding artificial intelligence, including who benefits from AI-driven growth, how future infrastructure demands for energy and water can be met sustainably, and how the gains from AI can be shared with vulnerable and underserved communities.
The summit highlighted Telangana’s ambition to emerge as a global hub for sustainable AI innovation by integrating green energy, responsible AI governance, open-access digital skilling and strong public institutions.
Organisers said the initiative could position Telangana as a pioneer in developing a sustainable AI ecosystem that balances technological advancement with environmental responsibility while attracting global investment and expanding opportunities for the next generation of innovators.
