“Why Did They Humiliate Our Mother?” Konda Sushmita Questions Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: Konda Sushmita, daughter of former Telangana minister Konda Surekha, has strongly criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over the treatment meted out to her mother amid the recent political controversy within the Congress party.

Speaking emotionally, Sushmita questioned why her mother was allegedly humiliated and asked what wrong she had committed. She also expressed regret over her own remarks, saying that had she known her statements would lead to such consequences for her mother, she would not have spoken in that manner.

Sushmita questioned whether a Chief Minister should say that either she or her mother should remain in the party. She maintained that there was no mistake in the words she had spoken and said that, even if her remarks were considered inappropriate, action should have been taken against her personally rather than targeting her mother.

“I never imagined that Revanth Reddy would harbour such hatred towards a woman who rose from an ordinary party worker to become a minister,” she said.

Sushmita claimed that she had not criticised the Congress party as a whole and had only spoken against an individual. She challenged critics to point out any wrongdoing by her mother, asserting that there had not been even a minor corruption allegation during Surekha’s tenure in her department.

She further alleged that sections of the media perceived to be supportive of Revanth Reddy were deliberately attempting to undermine her mother’s stature.

Addressing questions over her alleged remarks against the Chief Minister and another minister, Sushmita said there was no reason for her mother or father to ask her to abuse political leaders. She also dismissed suggestions that her father, who is reportedly seeking an MLC position, would have instructed her to make such statements.

Sushmita further alleged that the Congress high command had initially supported her mother but claimed that pressure from Revanth Reddy influenced the eventual decision. She also said she would later speak about alleged irregularities involving the Chief Minister’s brothers.

Despite the controversy, Sushmita said that her parents would continue to remain in the Congress party.

“If I had known that my mother would be humiliated like this, I would not have spoken the way I did,” she said, reiterating her emotional support for her mother amid the ongoing political dispute.
