Congress Faces Internal Discontent Over Planning Commission Appointments in Telangana

Hyderabad: Fresh discontent has reportedly surfaced within the Telangana Congress over recent appointments to key positions in the state Planning Commission, with some party leaders questioning the allocation of cabinet-rank posts to leaders who joined the party after it came to power.

The appointments of Gadewal Vijayalakshmi as Planning Commission Vice Chairman and Gundu Sudharani as Chairman have reportedly triggered dissatisfaction among sections of the Congress leadership. A senior party leader is said to have raised the issue with the party high command, questioning the criteria followed for making the appointments.

One of the concerns reportedly raised relates to Vijayalakshmi’s family. Her father, Keshav Rao, is already serving as a government adviser. The senior leader questioned how two members of the same family could be given positions carrying cabinet-level status.

The issue has also reportedly sparked questions among party MLAs over the political experience and contribution of some appointees. An MLA from Palamur is said to have questioned on what basis Vijayalakshmi was given cabinet rank and the opportunity to attend Cabinet meetings, particularly when several long-standing party workers have been waiting for recognition.

The internal dissatisfaction comes amid continuing debate over the recent political developments surrounding Konda Surekha and her exit from the state Cabinet. Some party leaders are reportedly unhappy that Surekha was removed while other leaders received prominent positions.

The remarks made by Surekha’s daughter Susmitha, including her references to “Real Congress” and “Green Congress”, have also reportedly angered some party leaders. A Palamur MLA is said to have criticised the remarks, alleging that such statements could damage the party’s interests.

Meanwhile, the possibility of Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy receiving a ministerial position has reportedly added to the dissatisfaction among some Congress leaders who had hoped for opportunities within the government.

The developments have particularly caused resentment among sections of Congress leaders in Warangal, where there is reportedly anger over the changing political equation following Surekha’s departure and Sudharani’s appointment.

The reported differences highlight growing competition within the ruling party over cabinet positions, nominated posts and other key responsibilities. However, the Congress leadership has not publicly confirmed the reported complaints or indicated any immediate changes to the appointments.

The situation is being closely watched as the party attempts to manage internal differences while maintaining organisational unity in Telangana.
