Afreen’s house demolition: Gokhale files RTI asking DM Prayagraj to furnish all related papers

“The demolition of @AfreenFatima136's house y'day was carried out with forged back-dated demolition notices & was an entirely illegal act by UP govt."

National Spokesperson, All India Trinamool Congress, Saket Gokhale claims that the demolition of Afreen Fatima’s house was carried out with forged back-dated demolition notices and is illegal. She files an RTI with District Magistrate Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

Posting the copy of the RTI filed, Gokhale tweets, “The demolition of @AfreenFatima136’s house y’day was carried out with forged back-dated demolition notices & was an entirely illegal act by UP govt. Have asked DM Prayagraj to furnish all related papers. If not punished in courts, this will never stop.”

In the RTI, she requested to furnish the true copies of all demolition notices served to Mohammad Javed before conducting the demolition on 12th June 2002.

She also sought all files, correspondence and records related to the demolition orders passed for the demolition of Mohammad Javed’s house.

Mohammad Javed’s daughter Afreen Fatima, who is a young Muslim activist, says it was an “act of vendetta” by the government for the protests over comments made against Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by officials of the country’s right-wing governing party.

Al Jazeera quoted Afreen as saying “At around 8:50pm on Friday, police came, saying they want to talk to my father. They asked him to accompany him to the police station. That is it. They did not tell us if it was a detention or if it was an arrest. There was no warrant that was shown.”

Her father Javed is a politician belonging to a Muslim party. He was charged with rioting and the police soon declared him the “mastermind” of the protests in Prayagraj.
