Huzurabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President & MP A. Revanth Reddy said that the Congress party would win the Huzurabad bye-elections with a comfortable majority.
He was addressing a public meeting after Congress candidate & NSUI State President Balamuri Venkat filed his nomination. Senior leaders including Madhu Yashi Goud, T. Jeevan Reddy, D. Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, Shabbir Ali, Geetha Reddy and others took part in the nomination rally and public meeting.
Revanth Reddy said that Venkat was picked as the candidate after serious deliberations. He said that the Congress party never took Huzurabad bye-election lightly and it announced its candidate’s name at the last minute as part of a political strategy. Stating that Balamuri Venkat was young, energetic and serious on public issues, he said that the Congress party finalised his candidature to send a strong message to the students and youth across the State that it would fight for their rights.
The TPCC chief said that while the TRS and BJP leaders were trying to lure people in Huzurabad by distributing liquor, cash and sarees, the Congress party did its ground-work in the last five months and strengthened its connection with the people. “Congress party does not have any illicit money to distribute among voters. Our leaders never grabbed lands which we could sell for elections. We only believed in serving the people and this time too, we picked a candidate Venkat who is directly connected with the people,” he said.
Revanth said that the Congress party was always proved right in selection of candidates. Citing an example, he said Ponnam Prabhakar was given an opportunity to contest Lok Sabha elections in 2009. Despite being a young student leader, Ponnam Prabhakar defeated political giants to win the elections. He said it was Ponnam Prabhakar who convinced the then BJP leader in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj to support Telangana Bill. Similarly, this time, Balamuri Venkat has been selected as a candidate for Huzurabad bye-elections as he is expected to fight for the rights of students and jobless youth. He said that the Congress party has launched a 67-day long agitation Vidhyarthi Nirudyoga Jung Siren agitation on October 2.
The TPCC Chief said that the Congress victory in Huzurabad bye-elections would strengthen its struggle against the TRS and BJP Governments on their failed promises and false assurances. He said both BJP and TRS were trying to lure voters with their ill-gotten money. But the Congress party is approaching the voters on their issues.
Reddy also slammed Padi Kaushik Reddy for betraying the Congress party to join TRS. He said that the Congress party gave Kaushi Reddy respect and an opportunity to contest elections in 2018 elections. But he betrayed the local Congress cadre to get a post for himself in the TRS Govt. He said Congress MP & ex-PCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy treated Kaushik Reddy as his own son. But Kaushik turned so greedy that he backstabbed Uttam Kumar Reddy and joined TRS. He acted in such a heinous manner that I would call him ‘Kasab’ (the Pakistani terrorist) instead of his original name.
He said Kaushik Reddy joined the TRS for a post and despite KCR cabinet recommending his name for MLC, he was so unfortunate that the Governor stopped his nomination. It was nothing but huge humiliation and Kaushik Reddy would continue to face similar humiliations after Congress party’s victory in Huzurabad bye-election.
The TPCC Chief said that there were nearly 60,000 students and youth in Huzurabad. He appealed to them to elect Balamuri Venkat as their MLA as he would be the one who would be fighting for their rights. He said that the problems of Huzurabad would remain unattended if TRS or BJP win the by-polls.
Stating that the nomination of Balamuri Venkat has already sent shockwaves among TRS and BJP, he said that the Congress party’s election of the right candidate has destroyed the game plans of both the ruling parties. He said that the Congress party would continue the elections campaign in an innovative, strategic and scientific manner so as to reach all the voters and convince them to vote in favour of Venkat Balamuri.
