Hyderabad: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) convened on Saturday in Hyderabad to deliberate on crucial matters, including strategies for upcoming Assembly elections in five states and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Flag Hoisting Ceremony Kicked Off the Meeting
The meeting commenced at the Taj Krishna hotel with a symbolic flag hoisting ceremony led by party president Mallikarjun Kharge. In attendance were prominent leaders such as Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and other top party officials. Following the ceremony, the CWC members initiated discussions on the meeting’s agenda, which began in the late afternoon and is expected to continue into the evening.
A Festive Welcome and Cultural Celebrations
The hotel exuded a festive ambiance, with traditional dancers welcoming the party leaders. Congress MLA Seethakka even joined in the tribal dance performances, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. The heart of the city witnessed heightened activity as the party’s top leadership gathered for the historic CWC meeting in Hyderabad.
The First CWC Meeting After Recent Reconstitution
This marks the inaugural CWC meeting since its reconstitution last month under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge, who assumed the role of party president in October of the previous year.
The primary focus of this meeting is to deliberate on strategies for the upcoming Assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram.
Additionally, discussions will revolve around preparations for the 2024 general elections, especially in light of the formation of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) aimed at countering the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Agenda Highlights and Extended Session
AICC General Secretary K. C. Venugopal outlined the key agenda items, which include preparations for the upcoming elections in five states and discussions regarding the INDIA alliance.
The CWC’s deliberations will extend into Sunday, September 17, with an extended session that involves all state party chiefs and CLP leaders. Over 140 leaders, including chief ministers of Congress-ruled states, are expected to participate in this significant meeting.
Mega Public Rally and Five Guarantees for Telangana
The party has planned a massive public rally near Hyderabad scheduled for the evening of September 17. Top party leaders will address the gathering, unveiling a set of five guarantees for the upcoming Telangana Assembly election.
Notably, this meeting coincides with September 17, which commemorates the anniversary of the erstwhile Hyderabad State’s accession to the Indian Union.
Extensive Outreach Across Telangana Assembly Constituencies
Following the public meeting, the Congress president will flag off a cavalcade comprising CWC members, PCC presidents, and CLP leaders.
They will embark on a journey to visit each of the 119 assembly constituencies in Telangana, where they will spend a night and actively participate in various party programs on September 18.
Activities include door-to-door distribution of the five guarantees and a chargesheet against the BRS government.
The leaders will also engage in a community lunch with influencers and, in the evening, participate in the Bharat Jodo March, emphasizing the party’s commitment to connecting with the people.
