In a major tobacco scam crackdown in Jummerat Bazaar, Mohammed Firoz Ali (35) was arrested by Goshamahal Police for allegedly selling expired and fake chewing tobacco products. The accused was caught near Madiga Bandhu Function Hall on Jummerat Bazaar Road during routine checks at around 12:30 PM.

Police seized 100 boxes of “Elvee Special Chewing Tobacco” worth ₹10,000, and a case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is ongoing.

Expired Tobacco Products Sold in Jummerat Bazaar

During routine inspections in Jummerat Bazaar area, police found a trader selling suspicious tobacco products along with grocery items.

The seized product:

  • “Elvee Special Chewing Tobacco” packets
  • No expiry date, manufacturing date, or valid barcodes on packets

Police said these products were unsafe and harmful to public health.

Illegal Stock Linked to 2023 Batch

Further investigation revealed:

  • Some packets belonged to 2023 batch, indicating they were expired
  • The products posed a serious health risk to consumers

Accused Confesses to Illegal Purchase and Sale

The accused Mohammed Firoz Ali, son of Mohammed Hamza Ali, resident of Kumraki Gumbad, Ziaguda, Hyderabad, reportedly confessed that:

  • He purchased the stock in bulk at low prices from Malakpet
  • Planned to sell them in weekly markets for profit

Case Registered Under BNS Sections

The case was registered by investigating officer L. Narasimha under Crime No. 152/2026 with the following sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita:

  • Section 125: Acts endangering life or personal safety
  • Section 274: Adulteration of food or drink intended for sale
  • Section 318: Cheating and fraudulent sale of goods

Police seized:

  • 100 boxes of “Elvee Special Chewing Tobacco”
  • Total value: ₹10,000

The seized items have been secured for further legal action.
