In a display of communal harmony and brotherhood, a Sikh man from Kashmir honoured a Muslim youth for completing I’tikaf in Ramadan.
80-year-old, Karnail Singh performed dastaarbandi (wrapping a turban around head) for Wasim Ahmed, as a mark of respect for completing the 10-day long i’tikaf, after the latter stepped out of a mosque.
The heartwarming moment was captured in Padibal, Tral of south Kashmir. The video has now gone viral on social media.
I’tikāf is an Islamic practice of staying in a mosque for a certain number of days, devoting oneself to ibadah during these days, and staying away from worldly affairs.
According to a journalist who tweeted the information, the village Padibal has a mixed population of 12 Sikh and 18 Muslim households. Having a strong bond, both communities in Padibal have been living in complete harmony for many years. Karnail Singh is the senior most member of the village.
