Hyderabad: KIMS Cuddles, Kondapur, has launched a week-long awareness campaign as part of World Breastfeeding Week to highlight the importance of breastfeeding and promote a supportive environment for mothers and newborns.
As part of the campaign, the hospital organised a breastfeeding awareness walkathon on Sunday, bringing together healthcare professionals, expectant mothers, parents and hospital staff. The initiative focused on the message that successful breastfeeding requires not only a mother’s commitment but also the support of families, healthcare providers and society.
Obstetricians, neonatologists, paediatricians, nurses, lactation consultants, hospital staff, expectant mothers and parents of young children participated in the walkathon. Participants called for greater awareness and community support to help mothers exclusively breastfeed their babies during the first six months.
Throughout the week, KIMS Cuddles is conducting several educational and awareness programmes for pregnant women, new mothers and their families. The activities include antenatal breastfeeding counselling, live demonstrations on proper breastfeeding techniques, continuing medical education (CME) sessions for healthcare professionals, quizzes, myth-busting discussions and skit competitions focused on lactation.
The campaign also promotes the recommendation that infants should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months, followed by appropriate complementary foods while breastfeeding continues for two years or beyond.
