Leopard Attacks Forest Official During Rescue in Karnataka

Karnataka : The incident took place near Anagodu/Kokkanur on National Highway 48 (NH-48) in Davangere district, Karnataka. The leopard was reportedly crossing the highway when an unidentified vehicle hit it. The injured animal fell into a roadside drain and remained there through the night.
After receiving information, Forest Department personnel reached the spot to rescue the animal and arrange medical treatment. A wildlife veterinary team administered a tranquilliser, but the drug had not yet taken full effect. The leopard suddenly lunged at a forest staff member, knocking him down and injuring his hand. Other members of the rescue team intervened and used a stick to distract the leopard, allowing the injured official to move away.
The rescue team eventually administered another dose of anaesthesia. Once the leopard was fully sedated, officials safely captured it using a net. The injured forest personnel was taken to a hospital for treatment. The leopard was also transported to a veterinary facility/hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the highway accident. Reports indicate it may be shifted to the Tyavarekoppa Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Shivamogga for further care
