Nizamabad contestant commits suicide ahead of assembly elections


Nizamabad: Yamaganti Kannaiah Goud, a 29-year-old candidate from the Alliance of Democratic Reforms Party for the November 30 elections, tragically died by suicide at his Gayatrinagar residence.
Goud, a vegetable vendor contesting in the Nizamabad Urban constituency, had chosen ‘roti maker’ as his poll symbol.

The Election Commission of India received a report on the incident, and further actions will follow based on their directives.

The Nizamabad Urban constituency includes contestants such as BRS MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta, Congress’ Mohammad Ali Shabbir, and BJP nominee Dhanpal Suryanarayana Gupta.

Police suspect that Goud took his own life due to harassment from an app’s organizers, who allegedly honeytrapped him. His last phone call and data indicate involvement with the app, raising suspicions of blackmail and threats to release compromising content.

Goud is survived by a wife, baby. His body has been shifted for post-mortem at the Government General Hospital.
