Telangana to Expand Fertility Services in Government Hospitals; Damodar Rajanarsimha Orders Monthly Inspections
Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha ordered the expansion of fertility services in government hospitals and mandatory monthly inspections of private fertility centres. Telangana has 464 registered fertility centres.

Hyderabad: Telangana Health, Medical & Family Welfare Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha has directed officials to expand fertility (infertility) services across government hospitals and establish dedicated Fertility Outpatient (OP) Clinics by utilising experienced government gynaecologists. The Minister also ordered mandatory monthly inspections of private fertility centres and directed strict legal action against centres violating statutory norms, engaging in unethical practices, or exploiting patients. The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting held on Friday at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat.

Telangana to Expand Fertility Services Across Government Hospitals
Chairing the review meeting, Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha said the State Government is committed to ensuring quality reproductive healthcare is accessible to couples across Telangana.
He instructed officials to establish dedicated Fertility OP Clinics in government hospitals by leveraging the expertise of experienced government gynaecologists.
The Minister further directed that interested government gynaecologists should conduct a dedicated Fertility OP Clinic at least one day every week, in addition to their routine maternal health services.
IVF Centres at Gandhi and Petlaburj Hospitals Show Encouraging Results
Reviewing the performance of the IVF Centres established in 2024 at Gandhi Hospital and Petlaburj Hospital, the Minister was informed that both centres have delivered encouraging outcomes.
Officials informed the Minister that:
- Nearly 37,300 patients have received fertility services from the two centres.
- 23 women who underwent IVF treatment have achieved confirmed pregnancies.
- 510 patients have undergone Intrauterine Insemination (IUI).
- IVF treatment is currently underway for 490 couples.
Fertility Services to Reach District Hospitals
The Minister directed officials to expand fertility services to district government hospitals in a phased manner.
He said Telangana has a strong pool of experienced government gynaecologists whose expertise should be effectively utilised to provide infertility care.
He also instructed officials to prepare proposals for establishing IVF Centres in district hospitals on the lines of Gandhi Hospital and Petlaburj Hospital.
Public Awareness on Infertility
The Minister called for sustained public awareness campaigns to educate young people about:
- Causes of infertility.
- Importance of timely medical intervention.
- Available treatment options.
Telangana Has 464 Registered Fertility Centres
Dr. Sangitha Satyanarayana briefed the Minister on the status of fertility centres, regulatory inspections, and enforcement measures.
She informed the meeting that:
- Telangana currently has 464 registered fertility centres.
- 60 centres have been issued notices for regulatory violations.
- Licences of 2 centres have been permanently cancelled for serious violations.
- Licences of 9 centres have been suspended.
Monthly Inspections Ordered for Private Fertility Centres
The Minister directed officials to ensure strict compliance with quality standards, transparency, and ethical practices in all private fertility centres.
Referring to the incident at Srishti Fertility Centre, he instructed officials to take all necessary measures to ensure that such incidents are never repeated.
He further ordered that:
- Every fertility centre must be inspected at least once every month.
- Any centre found violating regulations, engaging in unethical practices, or exploiting patients must face stringent legal action.
