Hyderabad: With municipal elections on the horizon in Telangana, the state government has finalised reservations for municipal wards, chairperson posts, and mayor positions. The move has set the stage for the long-awaited urban local body elections across the state.

Municipal Poll Notification Expected Soon

According to official sources, the announcement of Telangana municipal elections is likely in the first week of February. A formal notification is expected to be issued within the next two weeks, paving the way for election-related activities.

Reservation Orders Issued

Municipal Administration Secretary T K Sridevi issued reservation-related orders over the past two days. The reservation process has been completed in line with established legal and constitutional norms.

Basis of Reservation Allocation

  • SC and ST reservations: Based on the 2011 Census
  • Backward Classes (BC): As per the Dedicated Backward Classes Commission report
  • Women reservation: 50% reservation in accordance with the Telangana State Municipalities Act, 2019

Reservations Finalised for Urban Local Bodies

So far, reservations have been finalised for:

  • 121 Municipalities
  • 10 Municipal Corporations

Officials said the Telangana State Election Commission is preparing to release the election schedule for:

  • 117 Municipalities
  • 6 Municipal Corporations

The remaining urban local bodies are yet to go to polls due to ongoing legal and administrative issues.

Final Voter List Released

The State Election Commission has also released the final voter list for urban areas in Telangana.

Urban Voter Statistics

  • Total voters: 52.43 lakh
  • Male voters: 25.62 lakh
  • Female voters: 26.8 lakh
  • Third gender voters: 640

With the voter list finalised and reservations completed, the administrative groundwork for municipal elections is now complete.
