Telangana Announces Half-Day School Timings Amid Rising Summer Heat

As per the new schedule, schools will conduct classes from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM during this period. The decision has been taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students while allowing them to continue their academic activities without being exposed to the intense afternoon heat.

Hyderabad: The School Education Department of Telangana has announced the implementation of half-day school timings for all educational institutions across the state in view of the rising summer temperatures.

According to the orders issued by the department, all government, private, and aided schools will operate on a half-day schedule from March 15 until April 23. However, since March 15 falls on a Sunday, the revised timings will effectively come into force from Monday, March 17.

As per the new schedule, schools will conduct classes from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM during this period. The decision has been taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students while allowing them to continue their academic activities without being exposed to the intense afternoon heat.

In government and local body schools, students will be provided with the midday meal at 12:30 PM, after which they will be sent home.

The department has also clarified that schools serving as examination centres for Class 10 board examinations will follow a different schedule. In such schools, regular classes will be conducted from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, as the board examinations will be held in the morning hours.

Students in these schools will first receive their midday meal before the afternoon classes begin. Once the board examinations are completed, these institutions will return to the regular half-day schedule of 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

Meanwhile, the education department has also announced the summer vacation schedule. Schools will remain closed for summer holidays from April 24 to June 11, while the new academic year 2026-27 will commence on June 12.

Officials said the decision has been taken keeping in mind the rising temperatures and the need to protect students’ health during the peak summer season.
