Gold Worth ₹4.03 Crore Seized at IGI Airport; 3.20 Kg Gold Rods Hidden Inside Floor Spring

Following the recovery, Customs officials registered a case under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.

New Delhi :  Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi seized 3.20 kg of gold valued at approximately ₹4.03 crore from an Indian passenger arriving from Dubai.

According to Customs officials, the interception took place on October 19, 2026, following spot profiling by airport Customs personnel. The passenger had arrived on Emirates flight EK-512 from Dubai.

During a detailed examination of the passenger’s baggage, officials discovered gold in the form of rods concealed inside a floor spring, a hardware component commonly used in door-closing mechanisms. The unusual concealment method was reportedly intended to avoid detection during routine checks.

The seizure highlights the role of passenger profiling and thorough baggage inspections in identifying suspected gold-smuggling attempts at international airports.

Following the recovery, Customs officials registered a case under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the attempted smuggling and determine whether other individuals were involved.

Officials have not provided further details about the passenger’s identity or whether any arrests beyond the interception have been made.
