US State Department Expands Passport Cancellation Policy
Officials said the earlier rule only applied to people seeking passport renewal. However, under the updated policy, authorities can now revoke already issued passports of child support defaulters.
The State Department confirmed that the first phase will focus on people who owe $100,000 or more in child support payments. Officials also stated that the program may later be expanded to include people with unpaid dues exceeding $2,500.
According to the new system, the Department of Health and Human Services will provide a list of child support defaulters to the State Department for further action.
2,700 American Passport Holders to Face Immediate Impact
