The Telangana Transport Department has issued important instructions to motorists across the state regarding Traffic Challan Rules 2026. Under the new system, vehicle owners must update their mobile number, WhatsApp number and email ID details on the official Vahan portal within one month. The move aims to ensure that traffic challan information and transport department communications reach vehicle owners directly and without delay.

Telangana Traffic Challan New Rules 2026 Announced

The Telangana government has introduced new rules to speed up the communication of traffic challan information to vehicle owners.

According to the Transport Department, every motorist in the state must update their personal contact details so that challan-related information can be delivered directly to them.

The department said the new system is being implemented to improve transparency and streamline communication between authorities and vehicle owners.

Vehicle Owners Must Update Details on Vahan Portal

As per the Transport Department’s instructions, motorists must update the following information:

  • Current Mobile Number
  • WhatsApp Number
  • Email ID

The details must be updated on the official central government portal:

vahan.parivahan.gov.in

The government has given motorists a deadline of one month to complete the update process.

Why the Update Is Important

Officials clarified that motorists who fail to update their details within the specified period may not receive information related to traffic challans.

Once the update process is completed, information related to:

  • Traffic challans
  • Transport Department notifications
  • Other vehicle-related communications

will be sent directly through:

  • SMS
  • WhatsApp
  • Email

Telangana Transport Department Aims for Faster Recovery of Dues

The Transport Department believes the new system will improve transparency in the traffic challan process and help speed up the recovery of pending dues.

Officials stated that direct communication will ensure vehicle owners are informed about challans and related matters without delay.

No Excuse After Deadline Expires

The department made it clear that once the deadline expires, any information sent to the mobile number or email address registered on the portal will be treated as officially delivered to the vehicle owner.

Authorities said motorists will no longer be able to claim that they did not receive the message or were unaware of the challan information if the communication has been sent to the registered contact details.

The Telangana Transport Department has directed all vehicle owners to update their mobile number, WhatsApp number and email ID on the Vahan portal within one month under the new Traffic Challan Rules 2026. The update is intended to ensure that traffic challan information and transport department notifications reach motorists directly through SMS, WhatsApp and email. After the deadline, messages sent to the registered contact details will be considered officially delivered, and authorities will not accept claims of non-receipt.
