The Hyderabad City Police has issued a public cyber safety alert warning citizens against fake Census Verification links and messages being circulated by cyber fraudsters. In a post shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the police cautioned that fraudsters are using the pretext of Census Verification to deceive people and steal personal, financial, and sensitive information.

The Hyderabad City Police urged citizens not to click on unverified links and to remain vigilant against cyber fraud attempts.

According to the advisory posted by the Hyderabad City Police, cyber fraudsters are circulating fake links and messages under the guise of Census Verification.

The police stated:

“Cyber fraudsters are circulating fake links and messages under the pretext of Census Verification to deceive citizens and steal personal, financial, and sensitive information.”

Authorities warned that unsuspecting individuals could become victims of cyber fraud if they interact with such fraudulent links or messages.

Citizens Advised Not to Share Aadhaar, OTPs or Bank Details

The Hyderabad City Police advised citizens not to click on unverified links and not to share any confidential information with unknown persons or websites.

The advisory specifically asked citizens not to share:

  • Aadhaar details
  • OTPs
  • PINs
  • Bank account information
  • Passwords
  • Any confidential data

The police stressed that such information should never be disclosed to unknown individuals or suspicious websites.

Official Census Authorities Never Ask for Financial Credentials

The Hyderabad City Police clarified that official Census authorities do not seek sensitive financial information from the public.

According to the advisory:

“Official Census authorities never seek OTPs, PINs, bank account details, or any financial credentials from the public through phone calls, messages, or online links.”

Citizens have been advised to verify the authenticity of any communication claiming to be related to Census activities before responding.

Report Cyber Fraud Attempts Immediately

The Hyderabad City Police urged the public to stay alert and cyber safe.

Citizens have been requested to immediately report suspicious links, messages, or cyber fraud attempts through the following channels:

  • National Cyber Crime Helpline: 1930
  • National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal

The police emphasized that prompt reporting can help prevent cyber fraud and protect others from becoming victims.
