HYDRAA Fully Prepared for Monsoon Disasters; 51 DRF Teams, 300 Response Teams and 371 Dewatering Pumps Ready: Ponnam Prabhakar

HYDRAA is fully prepared for the monsoon season with 51 DRF teams, 300 response teams, 889 static teams and 371 dewatering pumps, Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said at Jalavihar.

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said HYDRAA is fully prepared to effectively tackle natural disasters during the upcoming monsoon season and protect the lives and properties of people across Hyderabad.

The Minister made the remarks while attending the HYDRAA Monsoon Response Teams Meeting held at Jalavihar as the chief guest. The meeting was attended by HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, Additional Director Papayya, other officials and staff members.

Special Training Given to HYDRAA Staff for Monsoon Emergencies

Addressing the gathering, Ponnam Prabhakar said special training has been provided to HYDRAA personnel to handle emergency situations that may arise during the rainy season.

He stated that HYDRAA remains at the forefront whenever natural disasters occur and takes measures to ensure that people do not face hardships.

The Minister said HYDRAA has access to:

  • Advanced machinery
  • Heavy-duty dewatering pumps
  • Emergency response vehicles

He added that the Telangana government has taken extensive precautionary measures under the leadership of HYDRAA to effectively face the monsoon season in Hyderabad.

HYDRAA Monitoring 913 Waterlogging Points Across Hyderabad

Ponnam Prabhakar said that after the formation of HYDRAA, special importance has been given to:

  • Disaster management
  • Urban flood prevention
  • Protection of lakes
  • Protection of nalas
  • Protection of government lands

The Minister revealed that special monitoring has been put in place for 913 identified waterlogging locations across the city.

51 DRF Teams, 300 Monsoon Response Teams and 889 Static Teams on Standby

The Minister said HYDRAA has deployed extensive resources to tackle emergencies during the monsoon season.

Teams and Resources Available

  • 51 Disaster Response Force (DRF) Teams
  • 300 Monsoon Response Teams
  • 889 Static Teams
  • 20 Bike Quick Response Units for immediate response to fallen tree incidents

According to the Minister, these teams are fully prepared to respond to any emergency situation during heavy rains.

371 Dewatering Pumps Deployed at Strategic Locations

To ensure rapid removal of water from flood-affected areas, HYDRAA has strategically deployed:

  • 371 Dewatering Pumps
  • Monitoring of 60 Flyovers
  • Monitoring of 38 Underpasses
  • Monitoring of 705 Lakes

The Minister said continuous surveillance is being maintained on these critical locations throughout the monsoon season.

Flood Risk Reduced in Key Areas After Desilting and Nala Restoration

Ponnam Prabhakar stated that flood risks have reduced significantly due to desilting, removal of encroachments, and drainage restoration works carried out in:

  • Ameerpet
  • Maitrivanam
  • Madhuranagar
  • Paradise–Patny–Rasoolpura Nala Corridors

He said these works have improved rainwater flow and reduced the threat of flooding in the affected areas.

Government Departments Working Round-the-Clock

The Minister assured citizens that there is no need to panic.

He stated that the:

  • Government
  • HYDRAA
  • GHMC
  • Traffic Department
  • Fire Services Department
  • Meteorological Department

are working in coordination 24 hours a day to address monsoon-related issues.

Focus on Rainwater Harvesting and Permanent Flood Solutions

Ponnam Prabhakar said HYDRAA is playing a crucial role in protecting government lands and lakes.

He advised that rainwater harvesting points should be established in every colony and every institution to permanently solve rainwater accumulation issues.

The Minister added that efforts are continuing to provide permanent solutions to:

  • Overflowing manholes
  • Nala-related issues

Minister Reviews Previous Works in Jubilee Hills and Other Areas

The Minister said he had personally inspected desilting and nala repair works undertaken by HYDRAA in Jubilee Hills and several other locations last year.

According to him, the positive results of those works have become clearly visible during the monsoon season.

He also directed GHMC Zonal Commissioners and HYDRAA officials to work in coordination to protect Hyderabad city from floods.

HYDRAA’s Main Responsibility Is Protecting Lives and Property

Ponnam Prabhakar stated that protecting the lives and properties of people in Hyderabad remains HYDRAA’s primary responsibility.

He called upon every officer and staff member to work with dedication to ensure a safe and efficient monsoon season.

The Minister appreciated the performance of HYDRAA and urged the agency to make greater efforts to ensure that citizens do not face any inconvenience.

At the HYDRAA Monsoon Response Teams Meeting held at Jalavihar, Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that HYDRAA is fully prepared to tackle monsoon-related disasters. With 51 DRF teams, 300 Monsoon Response Teams, 889 Static Teams, 20 Bike Quick Response Units, 371 dewatering pumps, and special monitoring of 913 waterlogging points, 60 flyovers, 38 underpasses and 705 lakes, HYDRAA has intensified its preparedness efforts. The Minister said the government, HYDRAA, GHMC, Traffic, Fire Services and Meteorological departments are working round-the-clock to protect lives and property during the monsoon season.
