Hyderabad: Tensions reportedly escalated on the premises of the Telangana Legislative Assembly after police allegedly manhandled BRS MLA Sunita Lakshma Reddy during a protest by BRS women legislators.
The BRS MLAs were reportedly marching from Gun Park towards the Assembly to protest what they described as the Congress government’s “1,000 days of failed governance.” Police personnel intervened to stop the legislators from proceeding further.
During the confrontation, BRS MLA Sunita Lakshma Reddy alleged that police personnel behaved disrespectfully towards her and pulled at her saree while attempting to control the protesting legislators.
Expressing anguish over the incident, Sunita Lakshma Reddy questioned whether police personnel could behave in such a manner without recognising that the women involved were elected Members of the Legislative Assembly.

The incident triggered strong reactions from BRS leaders, who accused the police of using excessive force against women MLAs. The party leaders demanded that the conduct of the personnel involved be examined and questioned the treatment meted out to elected representatives.
BRS MLAs also questioned why they were stopped from entering the Assembly premises wearing black clothes, stating that wearing black attire and holding a peaceful protest could not be treated as an offence.
The allegations have sparked a political controversy, with the BRS criticising the Congress government over the treatment of its legislators and raising concerns over police conduct on the Assembly premises.
