Postpone Gazette Notification on Water Issues: KCR to Shekhawat
The Chief Minister during his second visit to Delhi has met with the Union Jal Shakthi Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for over 40 minutes at his residence in New Delhi on Saturday.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today urged that the Centre postpone the Gazette notification it issued on Krishna and Godavari River water issues among two Telugu states.
The Chief Minister during his second visit to Delhi has met with the Union Jal Shakthi Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for over 40 minutes at his residence in New Delhi on Saturday. He gave a memorandum and submitted details of the projects to him and asked for justice to Telangana state.
KCR urged the Union Minister for his intervention to stop illegal construction of irrigation projects in Andhra Pradesh.
The Chief Minister opposed the Gazette notification for its extended purview including all the projects in both Krishna and Godavari boards. Only joint projects can be under the boards to decide he said adding that Rayalaseema lift irrigation project should be stopped to protect Palamur– Ranga Reddy project. He urged the union minister to give final sanction to complete the Palamur–Ranga Reddy lift project.
This is not right as the old projects cannot go under the gazette notification, he felt.
These projects will incur loss to Telangana state and must have stalled by the centre he said. KCR held talks with Shekhawat for about 45 minutes and explained him about the ongoing projects. The chief minister urged the union Minister to postpone the Gazette notification for now and take measures to protect water interests of the state. There are some previous projects taken up before bifurcation and new ones in the states.
The Gazette notification can include the previous projects and not those which were started after bifurcation. The boards can have their purview with the same old projects and the centre should take necessary action in this regard, KCR reportedly said.
He was accompanied by legislators representing erstwhile Mahabubnagar district – C Laxma Reddy, Rajender Reddy and Ala Venkateshwar Reddy.
On September 26 KCR will be attending a meeting called by Union Home Minister Amit Shah of Naxalite infested states at Vignan Bhavan.
He may urge upon Modi to give more funds for development in Naxal effected areas and for other development programs in the state. Later the CM may get return to Hyderabad on the same day evening.
