Student scolded by principal before parents, sets himself on fire

In a distressing incident, a pre-university college (PUC) student in Haveri, Karnataka, set himself on fire at his grandmother’s house on Wednesday. This unfortunate event unfolded just days after the student faced reprimand from his school principal for consistent class absenteeism.

The boy, residing in Hangal with his grandmother while his parents lived in Haveri, had been grappling with academic challenges, frequently missing classes. Concerned about his academic performance, the school principal called for a meeting with the boy’s parents.

During the meeting, the principal criticized the student in front of his parents, pointing out his poor exam results and lack of engagement in studies. This incident seemed to have deeply affected the student.

As per the police report, the boy alleged harassment by his college principal, citing it as the motive behind his drastic action of self-immolation. The police have registered a case against the school principal, and investigations are currently underway to unravel the details surrounding this unfortunate event.
