Uttam Kumar Reddy Pushes for Speedy Completion of Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme in Telangana

Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to speed up the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme, which will benefit 228 fluoride-affected villages and irrigate 3.61 lakh acres.

N. Uttam Kumar Reddy directed irrigation officials to expedite the completion of the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme and immediately finalise the level fixation for the offtake point of the project. The Minister issued the directions during a review meeting held in Hyderabad on Thursday after discussing the progress of the scheme with Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukender Reddy.

Uttam Reviews Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme Progress

According to the official statement, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy held detailed discussions with Gutta Sukender Reddy regarding the progress of works related to the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme.

The Minister instructed Irrigation Secretary E Sridhar and ENC (General) Ramesh Babu to immediately finalise the level from which water has to be drawn into the approach channel of the lift scheme from the Yedula Reservoir of the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme.

Barrage Works at Pothireddypalli Village to Begin

The Minister directed officials to immediately take up barrage works at Pothireddypalli village after obtaining finance-related clearance by May 15.

He also stressed the need to increase the carrying capacity of the AMRP SLBC main canal from 2,400 cusecs to 4,000 cusecs before taking up cement concrete lining works.

According to the Minister, the canal capacity may need further enhancement to 6,000 cusecs after completion of the project.

Rs 443 Crore Sanctioned for Canal Lining Works

N. Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that the government has sanctioned Rs 443 crore for cement concrete lining works for the high-level canal of the SLBC.

He said widening of the canal would be prioritised before taking up lining works.

Dindi Scheme to Benefit 228 Fluoride-Affected Villages

The Minister stated that the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme would help solve water problems in seven Assembly constituencies covering 228 fluoride-affected villages.

The project is expected to provide irrigation support to 3.61 lakh acres.

As part of the scheme, four online reservoirs and five offline reservoirs will be constructed with a combined storage capacity of 25.31 TMC.

The head works of the scheme have been divided into four packages, including the barrage at Pothireddypalli village and a 16 km tunnel.

95 Percent Work Completed on Dindi Balancing Reservoir

The Minister stated that 95 percent of works related to the Dindi balancing reservoir have already been completed by the state government.

He noted that a spillway stretch remains incomplete due to submergence issues affecting three villages, including rehabilitation concerns and forest land covering 180.14 hectares in Nalgonda and Nagarkurnool districts.

According to the Minister, Stage-I forest clearance is expected within a month.

He instructed officials to immediately call tenders for erection of gates at the Dindi balancing reservoir.

Pendlipaka Balancing Reservoir Estimate Reviewed

N. Uttam Kumar Reddy also reviewed the revised estimate proposal for completing the Pendlipaka Balancing Reservoir.

He favoured placing the proposal before the high-powered committee and directed that it be presented before the state cabinet in its next meeting.

The scheme is expected to benefit seven Assembly constituencies, 228 fluoride-affected villages and provide irrigation support to 3.61 lakh acres, while 95 percent works on the Dindi balancing reservoir have already been completed.
