Hyderabad: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday warned rice millers and traders against hoarding, black marketing and selling rice at excessive prices. He made it clear that strict action would be taken against those violating government regulations.
The government has fixed a maximum retail price of ₹66 per kg for commonly consumed BPT rice to protect consumers from rising prices. The pricing of RNR rice will be reviewed based on quality differences and production costs.
Uttam said enforcement operations had been intensified across Telangana, particularly in Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts. Following coordinated inspections by Civil Supplies, Police, GST and Legal Metrology departments, 12 cases were registered against traders for alleged illegal stockpiling and overpricing.

Assuring consumers of adequate rice stocks, Uttam urged people not to panic or make unnecessary bulk purchases. He also appealed to ration card beneficiaries to consume fine rice supplied through public distribution shops, highlighting that it is sourced from paddy grown by Telangana farmers and milled within the state.
