Kanhaiya, Jignesh Join Congress
Kanhaiya Kumar, former leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI), joined the Congress on Tuesday in New Delhi in the presence of senior party leader Rahul Gandhi.
New Delhi: Kanhaiya Kumar, former leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI), joined the Congress on Tuesday in New Delhi in the presence of senior party leader Rahul Gandhi. Jignesh Mevani, an independent MLA from Gujarat’s Vadgam constituency, also pledged his support to the party, claiming that while he has not formally joined the Congress, he believes in its principles.
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi along with Jignesh Mevani and Kanhaiya Kumar arrived at Shaheed park at around 4:30 pm and garlanded the statue of Bhagat Singh, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Shahid-e-Azam Bhagat Singh.
On being asked about the recent political development in Punjab, Rahul Gandhi evaded the media persons question and proceeded for AICC.
The event was organised by Indian Youth Congress at Bhagat Singh Park at ITO.
Former JNUSU leader Kanhaiya Kumar, had fought the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Begusarai on a CPI ticket but lost to BJP stalwart Giriraj Singh.
Mevani is an independent MLA from Vadgam constituency in Gujarat and convener of Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch.
