Telangana Seeks 30 LMT Boiled Rice Procurement: CM Revanth Reddy Meets Union Minister

CM Revanth Reddy urges Centre to procure 30 LMT boiled rice from Telangana, seeks ₹1,468.94 crore arrears release and resumption of fortified rice distribution.

A. Revanth Reddy has urged the Centre to procure 30 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of boiled rice from Telangana during the Yasangi (Rabi) season, highlighting the state’s readiness to supply quality rice. The request was made during a meeting with Pralhad Joshi in New Delhi.

The Telangana boiled rice procurement issue was discussed in detail as the state aims to ensure better support for farmers and streamline procurement operations.

Telangana Ready to Supply Boiled Rice with 5% Broken Content

During the meeting, CM Revanth Reddy and N Uttam Kumar Reddy informed the Union Minister that:

  • Telangana can supply 30 LMT of parboiled (boiled) rice with 5% broken rice content
  • Additionally, 5 LMT of raw rice with 10% broken content can also be supplied
  • Around 90 LMT of paddy production is expected in the current Yasangi season

The leaders emphasized that Rabi season paddy is suitable for boiled rice milling, making Telangana a key contributor to national food supply.

Meeting in Delhi Focuses on Rice Procurement and Arrears

The meeting took place at the residence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi in Delhi on Friday morning, where both sides discussed procurement and financial issues.

Key Requests Made by Telangana Government:

  • Procurement of 30 LMT boiled rice
  • Release of pending dues worth ₹1,468.94 crore from 2014-15 Kharif season
  • Resumption of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK) distribution

The Chief Minister highlighted that Telangana has consistently ensured timely payments to farmers within 48 hours of procurement.

Centre Gives In-Principle Approval for Boiled Rice Procurement

In a positive development, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi approved in-principle the proposal to procure boiled rice from Telangana.

The Union Minister was also informed that officials from the Ministry of Food and Public Distribution had earlier suggested increasing boiled rice supply due to rising demand across the country.

Call to Resume Fortified Rice Distribution

CM Revanth Reddy also urged the Centre to resume distribution of fortified rice, which was earlier supplied through:

  • Schools
  • Hostels
  • ICDS centres

The scheme aimed to address anaemia and nutritional deficiencies among children, but has been recently halted.
