Heavy Rains Lash Telangana; IMD Issues Orange Alert for 9 Districts
Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is continuing across several parts of northern Telangana due to a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.

The weather department has also forecast widespread heavy rainfall across the state over the next three days.
The IMD has issued Orange Alerts for nine districts, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in the erstwhile Adilabad, Nizamabad, Medak, Sangareddy and Vikarabad regions. Yellow Alerts have been issued for six districts, including the erstwhile Karimnagar, Bhupalpally and Mulugu regions, where heavy rainfall is expected.
The incessant rains have caused tanks and ponds to overflow in several parts of northern Telangana, particularly in Nizamabad district, while streams and rivulets are flowing at dangerous levels.
In view of the heavy rainfall, the district administration has declared a holiday for schools in Jagtial district.
Meanwhile, authorities have lifted 85 gates of the Medigadda Barrage after a surge in flood inflows. For the first time this monsoon season, the gates of the Jurala Project have also been opened to release excess water downstream.
Officials have advised residents to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel to low-lying and flood-prone areas, and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities as heavy rains are expected to continue over the coming days.
