Apollo Hospital Accused of Billing Irregularities, Woman Questions Corporate Hospital Practices

According to her account, the hospital initially estimated the treatment cost at around ₹2.5 lakh. However, despite having health insurance coverage, she was allegedly presented with an additional bill of approximately ₹1.5 lakh.

Hyderabad: A woman has alleged that she faced excessive billing during treatment at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad, raising questions over the billing practices followed by corporate hospitals.

According to her account, the hospital initially estimated the treatment cost at around ₹2.5 lakh. However, despite having health insurance coverage, she was allegedly presented with an additional bill of approximately ₹1.5 lakh.

The woman reportedly questioned the hospital staff about the additional charges and sought clarification regarding the bill. She alleged that when she resisted paying the additional amount, the hospital staff eventually told her that there was no need to pay the bill and sent her away.

The incident has sparked concerns over transparency in hospital billing, particularly in cases where patients have insurance coverage. The woman questioned whether such practices could be considered appropriate conduct by corporate hospitals and called for greater clarity in the way treatment estimates, insurance claims and additional charges are communicated to patients.

The allegations have also raised broader concerns among patients and their families about unexpected medical expenses and the need for hospitals to provide transparent, itemised billing.

However, the allegations are based on the woman’s account, and the hospital’s response or explanation regarding the billing dispute would be necessary to establish the facts of the matter.
