Young Woman Allegedly Steals Gold to Gift ₹2.5 Lakh Bike to Boyfriend

A 19-year-old college student from Pollachi in Coimbatore district has allegedly stolen gold jewellery from her friend’s house and used the proceeds to purchase a motorcycle worth ₹2.5 lakh for her boyfriend.

Coimbatore: A 19-year-old college student from Pollachi in Coimbatore district has allegedly stolen gold jewellery from her friend’s house and used the proceeds to purchase a motorcycle worth ₹2.5 lakh for her boyfriend.

The accused, identified as R. Joy Princy, is reportedly pursuing her second year of B.Com at a government arts college in the area.

According to police, Princy had visited her friend’s house on August 16 last year. During the visit, she allegedly stole nine sovereigns of gold jewellery that had been kept hidden inside a beer bottle at the house.

She later reportedly sold the stolen jewellery and used around ₹2.5 lakh from the proceeds to purchase a motorcycle, which she gifted to her boyfriend.

The theft came to light after the friend’s father, Tamil Selvan, lodged a complaint with the Pollachi North Police.

Acting on the complaint, police conducted an investigation and questioned Princy. During interrogation, she allegedly admitted to stealing the jewellery, selling it and using the money to purchase the motorcycle for her boyfriend.

Police have now launched a search for the boyfriend, who is reportedly absconding.

Further investigation is underway to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the theft and the purchase of the motorcycle.
